Where I Am: selected artists' moving image from Scotland + Gair Dunlop: Atom Town
24 May - 28 June 2015
Kate Davis | Gair Dunlop | Luke Fowler | Duncan Marquiss
Ben Rivers | Cordelia Swann | Margaret Tait
Where I Am, a touring programme of works selected from LUX Scotland’s archive, was presented in association with Film Hub Scotland, Atlas Arts; Taigh Chearsabhagh; Pier Arts Centre; Dundee Contemporary Arts and Talbot Rice Gallery.
Each venue adapted the programme in response to their own context. At HICA Where I Am was related to ideas from modern physics, through the inclusion of works such as Atom Town by Gair Dunlop, and discussion maintained through the process of selecting moving image works, with a local selection group.
A weekend event for the Where I Am project was held on 13-14 June, with talks by:
Isla Leaver-Yap (Project Director at LUX Scotland)
Gair Dunlop (artist and researcher)
James Mackay (curator and producer)
Katrina McPherson (director and video dance maker)
This event was an opportunity to reflect on two central questions of the Where I Am project at HICA: what might constitute a distinctly Scottish tradition of artists’ moving image, and how individual involvement may contribute to wider cultural developments, as reflected in the discursive development of the project, and its basis in individual, artistic, standpoints (as with the title, Where I Am).
One-to-one professional guidance sessions were held with students, artists and film-makers.
Details of the project are also available on the project website: www.whereiam.info
